You are not alone.

We know what you are going through. Most of us have been where you are now, overwhelmed by all that is happening and fearful for the safety of our loved ones . . . shock, despair, confusion. Losing someone to the system is very like a death. We grieve the loss of that person in our daily lives, and we grieve the loss of all our hopes and dreams for a future with that loved one. You do not have to go through this alone.

TIFA provides support, education, and advocacy for our members through monthly chapter meetings, this website, a quarterly newsletter, and access to the executive director of TIFA. Some of our accomplishments:

• Initiated hundreds of phone calls and emails informing members about lockdowns and saving them travel time, money and disappointment

• Launched new chapters and increased new memberships and renewals

• Purchased 300+ holiday cards with inmate-specific greetings for local chapter members to sign and send to their loved ones

• Generated 316 separate Constant Contact email messages to keep members informed about important issues, conditions and changes

• Gave 500+ children the gift of an incarcerated parent’s voice through Storybook Project

• Obtained a promise for visitation-by-appointment from a TDCJ Director (Visitation-by-appointment is now available at certain units)

• Distributed more than 150 TDCJ approved free clear coin purses for member use when visiting loved ones

• Located inmates who have been transferred from county jails to TDCJ for anxious families

• Provided ongoing updates on the 82nd Texas Legislature while in session

All of the above items were provided to members as a part of their memberships in TIFA.
